This month’s trestle board includes photos, education, announcements, and lodge news from the brethren of Dante Lodge #174.

Named for the Poet of the Language
In 1865, brethren chose Dante Alighieri as the namesake of a new Italian-speaking Lodge in New Orleans. Dante Lodge #174 was created by members of Silencio Lodge and Las Amigas Del Orden so that the work could be done in Italian. They named the Lodge for Dante Alighieri, called the father of the Italian language. The ritual is now conferred in English, yet the Lodge remains one of the last Scottish Rite Red Lodges in the United States — a living piece of New Orleans Masonic history.
