About Us

A Scottish Rite Red Lodge in New Orleans, chartered in 1865 and named for Dante Alighieri.

Dante Lodge #174 was established in New Orleans in 1865 and is one of the last Scottish Rite Red Lodges in the United States. Brothers of Silencio Lodge and Las Amigas Del Orden founded a Lodge that would work in the Italian language and named it for Dante Alighieri, father of that tongue. The work is now conferred in English, but the Lodge still stands in that tradition: a brotherhood of men who improve themselves, support one another, and serve their city through integrity, fellowship, and charity.

Our Foundation

What Freemasonry Is

Masonry is a brotherhood of men who come together to improve themselves, support one another, and serve their communities. It is built on integrity, kindness, and a commitment to becoming better every day. Through fellowship, reflection, and meaningful work, Masons strive to make a positive impact on their families, their professions, and the world around them.
